After 4 and a half decades of 20/20 vision, I realized I was having trouble reading books in my hand and road signs from a distance. I decided glasses may take the guesswork out of those fuzzy word shapes. With a reference from Lisa VanWyk (best Arbonne Rep ever), via <a href="http://www.linkedin.com/groups?mostPopular=&gid=2543114"target="_blank">INSB (a local networking group), I made an appointment with Acuity Optics in Commerce.

Dr. Bourdeau was very helpful with explanations to this eyewear novice. The eye chart was particularly challenging; I was struggling with what to call one “letter” when she turned around and realized she had erroneously posted the tumbling E chart!

I’m still getting used to reading glasses but I’ve finally adapted to my driving pair. As a side note, I should have taken her advice and purchased progressives instead of two sets. Now I know for next time.

(Note the video below will cause laughter despite the coarse language)

Laughter is good for the soul and provides many benefits, I believe it could be the true fountain of youth. It may not help you look younger but it definitely will make you feel younger! I’ve been aging at an alarming rate these past couple of years and I’ve almost completely lost my joie de vivre. So when Anastacia Brice began 31 Days of Laughter, I decided to join in and take notice of what was making me laugh daily. What I learned is I don’t guffaw nearly as much as I used to; my funny bone is tired.

That needs to change, doesn’t it? Somehow I think exercising my funny bone will be far more enjoyable than exercising everything else.

Would you shave your head to show solidarity with kids fighting cancer?

I learned about St. Baldrick’s through one of my networking meetings. Emily Macbeth began supporting the cause after losing her child to cancer. She is organizing a fundraising event to be held at the Uptown Grill on Maple Road in Commerce. (If you haven’t been to the Uptown Grill, you’re missing out! Everything is excellent and they have live music regularly.) You can visit the St. Baldrick’s Uptown Grill event page here. If you are a business or offer a service, please contact Emily by email (Emily.MacBeth@mac.com) or by phone at (248)926-1908, to donate items to the silent auction.

St Baldrick’s organization works to raise money for childhood cancer research. Their work culminates annually on St. Patrick’s Day (March 17th) all over the USA when volunteers get their heads shaved in support of kids fighting cancer. In the weeks and months leading up to the 17th, those same people work diligently to shed light on the organization by collecting donations. There are also many volunteers who organize and work at the events.

Todd List is one such volunteer. If you know Todd, you realize he was already bald prior to becoming involved with St. Baldrick’s. For the past couple of weeks, he’s been growing his head and facial hair so he can shave it off. To make the event more interesting, as soon as he raises $1000, he’s promising to shave HALF his face and head until the the job is completed on the 17th. If you’d like to add some comedic relief to this very serious cause, be sure to donate in Todd’s name here.

In searching for Todd, I came across another volunteer planning to get her head shaved at Uptown Grill. Kate Stroud is one of the few females who is stepping up and going bald for the cause. I haven’t met Kate, but her blog, The Bald Project, is a beautiful read about her feelings on getting shaved. The video interview of her kids opinion is priceless. You can donate in Kate’s name here.

“Ni heolas go haontios”
There is no knowledge without unity

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if the $20 you donated was the amount that made the difference and resulted in the cure? Let’s all pitch in to help St. Baldrick’s find the pot of gold for these children and their families.

Here’s an EmpowerMind homework tip, be sure to attend the seminar for more!

Read the questions before the chapter. When the teacher or professor assigns end of the chapter/section questions, make sure you or your child reads the questions before reading the material. This helps him know what to look for as he reads. Now he can become like a detective and look for all the clues that the author thinks are important BEFORE reading instead of reading it with no goal or direction in mind.

I’ve been home waxing for several years but recently stopped because my hair became so fine it was difficult for me to remove it with one fabric tear. I also found the process too time consuming.

Last year I attended a conference where Tiffany stood up and spoke to the presenters about promoting her personal waxing services. I was immediately impressed by her professionalism. We spoke briefly and I began to follow her on Twitter.

At that time I didn’t think I needed an esthetician. Fast forward a year and through our conversations I feel like I know Tiffany a little. Certainly more than I know anyone else in the industry. I know she takes her business seriously. I know she engages her customers, potential customers and suppliers in a friendly, considerate manner. I’ve begun to trust her.

So when I decided to look for someone to wax my parts, she was the only person I considered.

I was VERY nervous. Hot wax can go horribly wrong in poorly trained hands but Tiffany was great. She was fast and efficient. She worked hard to make me comfortable, which was not an easy task!

Would I go back? YES! And hopefully next time I’ll be more relaxed – for her sake!

If you’re looking to remove unwanted hair and need to find a skilled esthetician with hygienic practices and an exceptional table-side manner, you’ve found her. Her name is Ms. Esthy and she’s worth the drive to Rochester Hills! Tell her I sent ya!
