30 Days of Thanks – Day 19

Philips goLITE BLU Energy LightAs I sit here trying to think about what I was thankful yesterday, I’m bathed in a blue glow.

No, my mother ship has not landed.

It’s the Philips goLITE Blue Energy Light, I bought at Costco last week.  I used to get what I thought were the winter blues when I lived in Canada.  It definitely seemed to coincide with the reduced amount of time in the sun but I wasn’t 100% sure that was the problem.  I mean c’mon, I was born in Canada, winter shouldn’t affect me.  Then I moved to Columbus, Ohio where winters were significantly shorter and found my winter blues gone.

Four years ago when I moved to Michigan from Ohio, the winter bliues came back with a vengeance.  I’m not sure they’re worse than before but after being symptom free for seven years, it sure seems so!

Last year was a long winter, I’ve barely seen the sun this summer and combined with the current stress in my life, I began feeling lethargic and depressed as soon as the time changed for daylight savings this month.

Then a friend recommended light therapy.  So in the mornings, while I check my email, I turn on this little blue light and bask in the glow.  I think it’s working.  My mood has improved and I’ve been far more productive throughout the day.  That makes me very thankful to Philips for creating the light and making it affordable.

Now if I could just figure out how to get it to respond to, “Beam me up, Scotty,” I’d have fast transportation to a sun-filled vacation.
