30 Days of Thanks – Day 11

feature photo

Today is the day we have set aside to say thank you to our veterans.
In the USA it’s referred to as Veteran’s Day, in Canada today is referred to as Remembrance Day. No matter name, it’s a time to stop, evaluate what we have in our lives and give thanks to the men and women who have, and continue to, represent our national best interests.

I’d like to give thanks to all veterans and their families because none of us have been untouched by their heroism.

I always recite the following poem on November 11th. It was written by John McCRae and is a Canadian tradition…

In Flanders Fields

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
